Measuring
Do's and Donts
Pick the surface that you will measure
on, use hard
surface if possible (the harder and smoother the surface the more
accurate the measurement).
Always
walk in a straight a line as possible as the wheel will measure
all the curves and bumps.
Grass
(lawn), thick carpets and soft sand will never give an accurate
measurement as these surfaces tend to retard the rotation of the wheel
and your measurement is likely to be short.
In the
event of grass, it is found that depending on the position of
the sun at the time of measurement, the reading will change, as the nap
of the grass is affected by the position of the sun. The nap of the
grass will affect the measurement.
The
same occurs on thick pile carpet, the direction of the pile has a
influence over the measurement.
